Gareth Porter is an independent investigative journalist and historian who has specialized on issues related to the U.S. national security state for 14 years. He received the Gellhorn prize for journalism for 2012, awarded annually by the Gellhorn Trust in the UK to honor journalistic writing that reveals government lies and propaganda.

He is the author of Manufactured Crisis: The Untold Story of the Iran Nuclear Scare(2014) and Perils of Dominance: Imbalance of Power and the Road to War in Vietnam (2005), among other books.
